Mr. Louis Martin Ayer, Sr., age 85, entered into eternal rest Thursday afternoon, June 25, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at his residence on Main Highway in Olar, while under the care of Regency Hospice.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2015, from Saint Johns Baptist Church, 2468 Saint Johns Church Road, Ehrhardt.  The Reverend Paul Reid and The Reverend Gary Jones officiating.  Interment will follow in the Churchyard.

 

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 1:30 that afternoon in the church sanctuary.

 

Born November 21, 1929, in Bamberg County, he was a son of the late Louis Green Ayer and the late Wilma Kinard Ayer.  He was a lifelong famer.  He was an active member of Saint Johns Baptist Church, where for over fifty years he has served as a Deacon.  One of his greatest passions and his greatest service to his church was visiting with others, an act he done diligently until his health no longer permitted him.  He was an avid fisherman.  He will always be remembered for the love he possessed for his family and his church.

 

Surviving are: his loving wife of sixty-three years, Mrs. Lorraine Jones Ayer; four children, Judy Ayer Carter and her husband Kim of Olar, Sandra Ayer Chavis of Olar, Raleigh Green “Buddy” Ayer of Olar, and Shirley Ayer Funderburk and her husband Brad of Williston; a brother, Sidney Ayer of Charlotte, North Carolina; and three sisters, Nina Ayer Mitchum of Olar, Mary Eleanor Brant of Fairfax, and Nellie Ayer Fisher of Mount Pleasant.  There are twelve grandchildren, Joshua Martin Ayer, Stacey Ayer, Jessica Simpson, Morgan Funderburk, Rachel Wilbanks (Regan), Ian Funderburk, Scott Carter, Clay Carter (Allison) Wesley Carter, Kevin Carter, Brandi Williams (Wayne) and Julia Chavis; and four great grandchildren, Timothy, Abagail, Caleb, and Ethan; as well as his beloved companion and constant friend, “Bee-Bee”.  He was preceded in death by a son, Louis Martin “Marty” Ayer, Jr.; and three sisters, Elma Ruth Bodiford, Juanita Ayer Carroll, and Lula Bell Morris.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Regency Hospice, 1890 St. Matthews Road, Orangeburg, South Carolina 29118.
