Jim Floyd

September 26, 1942 ~ January 18, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Mr. James Berry Floyd, Sr., known by all as “Jim” age 74, entered into rest Wednesday morning, January 18, 2017, at his home in Walterboro.

Jim’s life will be celebrated during a service of Worship, demonstrating his love for mankind, 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, January 21, 2017, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.

The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony in The Harbiston Stateroom of the mortuary.

Born September 26, 1942, in Colleton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late McIver C. Floyd and the late Lucille Crosby Floyd.  Jim was a well-known icon in Walterboro; a community and its people whom he loved dearly.  Most notably in his life, he was known as “Jim Floyd the Painter”, through his years of dedication and ownership of Floyd Painting, Inc.  His humor was second to none and he always had a comical anecdote or comment for every situation and conversation.  In his earlier years, he served in the South Carolina National Guard and was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Walterboro where he had served as an Elder, and was a member of Gideon’s International.  He knew the value of one’s character and he believed in the significance of helping his fellowman.  In the later years of Jim’s life, he became well-known as the old fart on the golf cart, being seen up and down the Bells Highway in Walterboro.

Surviving are:  his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Mrs. Rebecca Thomas “Billie” Floyd; two children, James Berry Floyd, Jr. of Lake Lure, North Carolina and Charlotte Floyd Stanfield and her husband Ted of Walterboro; a brother, Frank Floyd of Lake Lure, North Carolina; and a sister, Virginia Fuller of Walterboro.  There are two grandchildren; Caleb Floyd Padgett and Caston Michael Savik; as well as a large host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.   He was preceded in death by three siblings, Helen Floyd Haller, Maxine Floyd Lane, and William A. Floyd.

In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following:  First Christian Church Building Fund, 417 Carn Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or to, Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607; or to, Colleton County Relay for Life, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406; or to: Gideon’s International – Walterboro Camp, 246 East Washington Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
