Mr. Jacob “Jake” Clare Thomas, of The Oaks, Orangeburg, South Carolina, formerly of Smoaks, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, at the age of 84. He was the husband of the late Lula Mae Douglas Thomas, who passed away in 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm, Saturday, September 24, 2016 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Jake was born February 1, 1932 in Colleton County, son of the late Joseph Calhoun Thomas and Alma Bishop Thomas. He was a graduate of Smoaks High School, and served in the South Carolina Army National Guard. He retired from ITT Industries in 1994. He was a faithful member of Green Pond United Methodist Church in Smoaks and served in many capacities there.
Surviving include his brothers, Reverend J. Herbert Thomas of Smoaks, Ray (Elva) Thomas of Smoaks, and Frankie (Marie) Thomas of Ridgeville; and sisters, Helen Cooper of Fletcher, North Carolina, and Eva Thomas Beach of Walterboro. He is also survived by step children, Peggy Shadrick of Winston Salem, North Carolina and Don Neil (Sherry) Crosby of Ruffin.
