Mrs. Melissa Evelyn Kicklighter Lanier, of Islandton, South Carolina was born October 2, 1917 and entered into eternal rest Saturday afternoon, October 7, 2017 at 100 years old.
She was the daughter of the late Jesse F. and Gerheu O. Kicklighter. She was a 1937 graduate of Lodge High School. She was married to Harold Grady Lanier from March 23, 1945 until his death on July 3, 1976. She was a member of Waters Avenue Baptist Church, Savannah, Georgia and was a former member of Rice Patch Christian Church, Islandton, South Carolina.
She worked for W.T. Grant Company in Charleston, South Carolina, and was a legal secretary for John M. Brennon Law Firm in Savannah, Georgia and later worked for Chatham County Georgia Board of Education, until she retired in 1980. She loved her family and her hobbies were sewing, flowers, gardening, and working in her yard.
Surviving are: a sister, Iris K. Johnson; and a brother, Russell R. Kicklighter and his wife Naomi of Islandton; as well as nieces, Faye J. Polk of Islandton, Revonda P. Zellars of Islandton, Louise L. Carter and her husband Alvin of Savannah, Georgia and Melissa Hilbert and her husband Randy of Columbus, Georgia; and nephews, Johnny Van Johnson and his wife Charlene, and David Mack Johnson and his wife Margaret, all of Islandton; and several great grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Thursday morning, October 12, 2017 from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Dr. Larry L. Smith officiating. Interment will follow that afternoon at 2 o’clock in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 315 Greenwich Road, Savannah, Georgia.
