Draft Horse and Carriage Company

The Brice Herndon Draft Horse and Carriage Company was founded by the late Donald A. Herndon in 2017.

The farming and horse world was a very dear part of Donald’s life and many may remember from many years ago the Herndon family family that was located where the current day Walterboro Wallmart is located. One of Donald’s final, and probably one of the most treasured, ventures in his life was establishing The Brice Herndon Draft Horse and Carriage Company. During a weekend excursion with his son and good friends, Timmy Sumner, Jared Sumner and Mike McLaine, he came home with the first of his draft horses and carriages. That horse was a 18hh grey Percheron named “Doc” and he alone laid the ground work for what became a great part of the Herndon legacy.

Donald then oversaw the purchase and creation of Perchwood Farm in Walterboro, which is home to the Brice Herndon Draft Horses. Until his last days, Donald remained resolute to the care of his beloved French Percherons, Clydesdales, Friesians, Haflingers, Belgians and other horses.  This endeavor brought full circle his childhood memories with horses - watching them work, perform carriage work, compete and do trail rides.

Today, the company offers horse-drawn carriage services to countless funeral homes, wedding venues, and township events across the Lowcountry of South Carolina and into parts of Georgia.
