Mr. John Paul Detrick, 68, of Hampton, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, May 5, 2016 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel.  Interment will follow in Varnville Cemetery.

Born February 8, 1948 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Clair Heasley Detrick and Janet Belle Edgar Detrick.  He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and the University of South Carolina Law School.  He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.  Mr. Detrick was a partner with Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth and Detrick Law Firm; and was the founder of Detrick’s Premier Car Wash that now has three locations. 

Mr. Detrick was a true Christian who served the Lord faithfully, with his faith growing stronger during his 7 year battle with cancer.  Most of all, he was the rock of his family.  A dedicated and loving father, father-in-law, grandfather and brother, he always focused on his family and made them, along with his relationship with the Lord, the center of his life.

Surviving are: his children, Denise Broome and her husband John of Aiken, Genise Rabon and her husband Chris of Lexington, Darryl Detrick and his wife Sarah of Murrells Inlet, and Derrick Detrick and his wife Christian of Conway; grandchildren, Travis Broome and his wife Briana, Kelcey Brower, Brooke Broome and her fiancé Elias, Christian Rabon, Olivia Rabon, Dylan Detrick, Ryan Detrick, Darryl Detrick, Jr., Randy Grimm, Dillon Grimm, and Karissa Grimm; great granddaughter, Emma Broome; sisters, Betty French of Varnville, Susanne Whiddon of Simpsonville, Barbara Gray of Brunson, and Karen Berrier of Lexington; brother, Richard Gomrick of Suwanee, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Hampton County Relay for Life; or to the charity of one’s choice.
