Olin D. Miller, Sr.

Mr. Olin Delano Miller, Sr., 80, entered into rest Thursday evening, November 30, 2017, surrounded by his family at his home in Varnville. 

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, December 2, 2017, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Varnville.  The Reverend Paul Reid officiating.   Interment will follow in Sandy Run Cemetery, Sandy Run Road, Varnville. 

Born May 13, 1937, in Columbia, he was a son of the late John Henry Miller and the late Pearl Denhamn Miller.   He served in the United States Amry in the Infantry and also in the South Carolina National Guard.   He worked a long and dedicated career, having been at the Parris Island Marine Corps Base many years prior to his time and eventual retirement from Charleston Naval Weapons Station.   In his younger days of High School in Denmark, he was a beloved icon with the Football team and other sports.   He dearly love softball and played with both his church team as well as the town’s softball team.   He traveled a lot, having alongside his wife, traveled and visited most of the West Coast. He was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church.    He will always be remembered as a family man, who always centered his life around his loving family. 

Surviving are: his wife of fifty-five years, Mrs. Vera Tuten Miller; three children, Olin D. Miller, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Varnville, Janet Marie Cummings and her husband Lewis of Chapin, and Nancy Kay Jarrell and her husband Dean of Varnville; three grandchildren, James Olin Miller, Matthew John Miller, and Kaylee Marie Bratcher; two step-grandchildren, Rodney Ward and David Bozard; and one step-great grandchild, Nathan Bozard.  There are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that also survive. 

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation prior the funeral service Saturday afternoon beginning at 2 o’clock at THE BRICE W.
