Welcome to the memorial page for

Mable Norton Roberts

October 3, 1923 ~ April 12, 2015 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Mrs. Mable Norton Roberts entered into eternal glory Sunday evening, April 12th, 2015, at the Lexington Extended Care in Lexington, South Carolina.  “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” “I have fought the good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished the course.” What a wonderful lady, a true “Steel Magnolia.” She enjoyed every minute of her 91 years that God gave to her and was always the anchor for her family.

She was born in Avon Park, Florida, on October 3, 1923 to the late Frank and Mattie Norton.  It was in Avon Park that she met and married Junius Ray “June” Roberts on June 1, 1943.  She and June moved to Lexington, South Carolina then to Walterboro, South Carolina in 1947 where they had three children.

She was predeceased by June and their son,, Junius Ray “Sonny” Roberts, Jr.  Surviving are two children, John Charles Roberts and his wife Sandra of Walterboro and Susan Elizabeth Morgan and her husband Rodney of Lexington; her grandchildren, Rhonda Morgan Moore and her husband Austin, Jason Morgan, and June Roberts Easterlin and her husband Corey; great grandchildren, Madeline Elizabeth Moore and Ella Grace Easterlin.

The joys of her life were her family and her many friends from her church family at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Walterboro and her many friends from the South Carolina State Forester Commission where she worked for thirty-three years, as well as her various acquanitances from her years in Walterboro.  She never met a stranger, always having her sweet smile and ease of conversation with everyone.  She will be missed by anyone who had the good fortune to be her friend.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt thank you to the staff at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care in Lexington where mom has called home since a tragic fall in May 2011.  The love and excellent care given to her has been a God send to us.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, April 14, 2015, from the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.  The Reverend Rich Johnston of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  The family will receive friends following the graveside committal at the cemetery.

For those that so desire, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 May Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
