Letha Jolley Jones

Mrs. Letha Jolley Jones, 90, entered into rest Wednesday morning, April 15, 2015, at her home on Jefferies Highway in the Pleasant Grove Community of Walterboro.  She was the loving wife of the late Mr. Christopher Carn Jones, Sr.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, April 18, 2015, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Churchyard, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro.

A daughter of the late Gilbert B. Jolley and the late Maggie Elizabeth Kinsland Jolley, she was born September 28, 1924, in Hayward County, North Carolina, she has been a longtime resident of Walterboro.  Letha devoted her life to her family and to serving her Lord.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was active with the Christians in Action.  She loved the youth, and assisted with the children’s Sunday School class not only at Pleasant Grove but also at Zion Baptist Church in Walterboro where she served as their Acteen Leader.  Also as Zion, she was very dedicated to the Women’s Missionary Union.

Surviving are: her sons, Christopher Carn Jones, Jr. and his wife Shirley and Gilbert Lee Jones and his wife Lisa of Walterboro; her daughter, Carolyn Jones Hiers and her husband Jim;  a sister, Darlene Briggs and a brother, Gilbert Jolley.  There are eight grandchildren, Robin Walling, Michelle Davis, Leah Wright, Christopher (C.J.) Jones, III, Kristy Brown, Lindsay Castillo, Christopher Lee (Chris) Jones, and Kellie Branham; fifteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren that also survive.  She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, William Hiott and Jessica Dora Jones; and four siblings.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the administration and staff of Hospice Care of South Carolina for the love and care they provided to Letha and the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
