James Everette Hiers

Mr. James Everette Hiers, 84, of St. Johns Church Road, Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest Friday, May 1, 2015 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock, Tuesday morning, May 5, 2015 at St. Johns Baptist Church, St. Johns Church Road, Ehrhardt.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Born June 9, 1930 in Ehrhardt, he was a son of the late Bradley Carroll Hiers and Agnes Peters Hiers.  He was a graduate of Clemson University, was a member of the Clemson IPTAY club and avid Clemson sports fan.  He served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He then retired from the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier after 35 years of service. 

Mr. Hiers was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Johns Baptist Church, where he served as a church Deacon for many years and was the Sunday School Superintendent.  He was well known for the love and support he had for his community.  He was the original donor for the start of Andrew Jackson Academy and donated land for the formation of Camp Hi Ki Pen.  He was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association as well as the Cattleman’s Association.  Mr. Hiers loved farming and especially loved his cows, but most of all, he will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends.

Surviving are: his wife of 60 years, Jacqueline McKenzie Hiers of Ehrhardt; daughters, Beth Hiers Thomas and her husband Mike of Hampton, Eve Hiers Ulmer and her husband Johnny of Ehrhardt, and Robin Hiers Golden and her husband Mark of North Augusta; grandchildren, Jim (Kristen) Thomas, Dan Ulmer, Cari Golden and Brad Golden; great grandson, Eli Thomas; brothers, Alyea Hiers of Ehrhardt and Franklin Hiers of Ehrhardt; and sister, Beverly Hiers Fisk of Lodge; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Carroll Hiers, J.A. Hiers, and Percy Hiers; and sisters, Catherine Hiers, Althea Hiers Stephenson, Mary Louise Hiers Parnell, Florine Hiers Fogle, Margaret Hiers Rawl, and Angelia Hiers Breland.
