Mr. Thomas Everett O’Quinn, known to many as “Tommy”, age 89, of Walterboro, entered into rest Monday evening, July 4, 2022, at his residence while under the care of Amedisys Hospice.
Born April 4, 1933, in Colleton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Horace and Lyda Hiott O’Quinn. Tommy was a Magna Cum Lade graduate with an Associates Degree in Business from Furman University. Mr. O’Quinn served faithfully in the United States Air Force having retired from active service as a Senior Master Sergeant. During his military career, he saw action during the Vietnam Era and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. After his tenure in service, he began a long and faithful employment with the United States Postal Service. At the Yemassee Post Office, he began as a rural route carrier and eventually retired as Assistant Post Master under mentor and longtime friend, Hugh Morgan.
Tommy was a life long member of Black Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was the “College and Career” youth Sunday School teacher. He was very much the outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a prized turkey hunter. He enjoyed the time and effort he spent in his garden and always relished in sharing his harvest with family, friends, and a community he dearly loved. He was a friend to everyone, never meeting and stranger and possessing a very warm and loving personality. He enjoyed raising cows and chickens and was always a favorite at the Orangeburg Stockyards.
