Susan D. Montjoy

Susan Derea Montjoy, 72, of Walterboro, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday morning, May 28, 2022, at Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville, S.C.

Susan was born August 2, 1949, in Laurens, South Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late Mr. Lawrence Earl Montjoy and the late Mrs. Margaret Thomas Montjoy.  She grew up in Driggers Crossroads, near Round O, and attended Hampton Street Elementary, Walterboro Junior High, and Walterboro High School; walking with her class of 1968, before completing her state high school diploma studies at Wil Lou Gray School in Columbia, S.C.

Susan placed work ethic above all else. She was a registered EMT-Intermediate for Carolina EMS throughout the 80s and 90s and took great pride in her job, including assisting in evacuating Charleston hospitals during Hurricane Hugo. As was her bloodline, she would go on to work the graveyard shift at Super 8 Motel in 1998. She remained there until her declining health forced her into an early retirement in 2017.

Susan was a lifelong member of Bedon Baptist Church in Walterboro, and, before CoVid, had recently began attending again after her 2017 retirement. 

She is survived by: her daughter, Ana Montjoy of Charleston; and an aunt, Helen Phipps, of Nokesville, Virginia.  She is also survived by several cousins throughout the South Carolina Lowcountry and Northern Virginia. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Montjoy. 

The family would like to thank everyone at Magnolia's of Walterboro and Fresenius Walterboro for tending to Ms. Montjoy during her final years.

Graveside services will be conducted 10 o’clock, Friday morning, June 3, 2022, from Bedon Baptist Church Cemetery, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro.
