Mrs. Sonya Elaine Gunter Carter, 57, of Walterboro, entered into rest Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at her residence.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina, she was a daughter of Ann Hair Strickland and Jerry Gunter. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro and was a member of the Walterboro Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Sonya will always be remembered as a very loving wife and mother who centered her life around her family. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking.
Surviving are: her husband of forty years, Mr. Roderick Perry Carter; two children, Rodney Carter and his wife Nicole of Walterboro and Mehgan Carter and her fiancé Lanie Whitaker of Spartanburg; two sisters, Brenda Brooks of North Charleston and Becky Sansouci of Moncks Corner; two grandchildren, Hannah Carter and Cylian Carter; and her beloved dog, “FiFi”.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, August 3, 2021, in Gethsemane Baptist Church, 655 Hammond Cross Road, Saint Matthews. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
