The Reverend William Herbert Bishop, 96, of Johns Island, entered into eternal rest Monday morning, December 5, 2022 at his home. He was the husband of the late Etta Mae Browning Bishop to whom he was married forty-two years.
Born December 14, 1925 in Colleton County, he was a son of the late William Jasper Bishop and Allie Murdaugh Bishop. He served his country in the United States Army, having served during World War II. Reverend Bishop was an ordained Advent Christian minister and shared the gospel at his family church, New Hope Christian Church in Islandton for 38 years. The church was his life and he dedicated himself to God’s work.
Surviving are: his children, Deborah Fuller of Johns Island, James Whitman Rowell of Ridgeville, Bruce Marty Bishop, Sr. of Tennessee, George Bishop and his wife Beth of Summerville, Elaine Johnson of Johns Island, and Lydia Suggs and her husband Spence of Meggett; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, William Keith Bishop.
Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Thursday morning, December 8, 2022, at New Hope Christian Church, 5144 Forks Road, Islandton. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 am.
