Raymond Freeman Obituary

Mr. Joe Raymond Freeman, Sr., 74, of Hampton, entered into eternal rest Wednesday evening, May 27, 2020 at his residence.

Born on December 4, 1945 in Hampton, he was a son of the late Harry Wilbur Freeman and Hautie Cook Freeman Rivers.  He served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He was a die-hard Carolina Gamecock fan and loved Diet Coke, as that was all that he would drink.  He was a retired life insurance agent for over 20 years.  After retiring from the insurance business, he began working as a hunting guide at Brays Island in October 1997.  He then received his Captain’s license in 2000 and became a fishing captain at Brays Island, retiring in 2008.  He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing so after his retirement from Brays Island, he became a hunting guide for Whippy Creek Farm in Crocketville.  Mr. Freeman loved the mountains and taking trips to Maggie Valley, but most of all loved his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are: his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Dean Freeman of Hampton; children, Ray Freeman of Hampton, Tina Freeman Boyles and her husband Charlie of Hampton, and Bryan Freeman and his wife Christy of Yemassee; grandchildren, Olivia Boyles, Dylan Freeman, Charles Boyles, and Sydney Freeman, all of Hampton; one great grandchild on the way; brother, Wilbur Freeman of Hampton; sister, Jackie Matthews of Savannah, Georgia; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Lloyd Rivers; sisters, Martha Ann Jenny and Linda Thigpen; and his father and mother-in-law, Vincent and Trudy “Flossie” Dean.
