Paul Hiers

Mr. Paul Leighton Hiers, Sr., 84, of Varnville, entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 14, 2021 at his residence.  He was married to the late Virginia Stanley Hiers and was the widower of the late Linda DeLoach Hiers.

Born January 6, 1937 in Olar, he was the son of the late Hansford Henry “Duncan” Hiers and Bertha Connelly Hiers.  Mr. Hiers was a retired insurance agent and had worked for many years IDI-Industrial Distributors.  He loved growing and working with flowers which led him to open Jenna’s Flowers.  He was a member of West End Baptist Church and the Crocketville Masonic Lodge.  He loved people and always had a joke for everyone. Mr. Hiers was a Christian man and true southern gentleman who loved his family dearly.

Surviving are: his children, James Hansford Hiers and his wife Donna of Nixville, Mark Anthony Hiers, Sr. and his wife Julie of Crocketville and Tanya Firster of Varnville; daughter-in-law, Tammy Sue Crosby Hiers of Nixville; 18 grandchildren, Heather Lynn Hiers (Boomer Henninger), Paul Leighton Hiers, III (Patricia), Brandy Nicole Hiers, William Clifford Hiers (Maple), Jessica Hiers Carson (John), Michelle Hiers Aiken (Joey), Miranda Hies Carroll (Shane), Tiffany Rodriguez (Japhet), Crystal Hiers Treadway (Josh), Roy Keil (Suzy), John Walling, Jr., Blease Walling, Sarah Thomas (Dean), Joey Weems, Mark Anthony Hiers, Jr., Ami Roland (Jason), Amber Pulaski, and Emily Firster; 34 great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including special nieces and nephews, Nancy Stanley, Horace and Janet DeLoach, Hayden DeLoach, Sidney Crosby, and Allison DeLoach. 

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Leighton Hiers, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Cyndie Jones Hiers; brothers, William H. Hiers and Cecil B. Hiers; and sisters, Lucille DeLoach, Jane Still, Carnell Morris, Cora Mae Carroll, and Bell Fail.

Funeral services will be held 3 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, January 17, 2021 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel.  Interment will follow in Smith Cemetery.
