Mary Kinard Carter, 83, of Howells Mill Road, Bamberg, entered into rest Tuesday evening, February 6, 2018, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, February 10, 2018, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Ehrhardt. Interment will follow in Smoaks Baptist Churchyard, 443 Lodge Highway, Smoaks.
Born November 30, 1934, in Williams, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Kinard. Mrs. Carter worked a career that spanned over fifty years in the insurance industry. For ten years, she worked for the Crop Statistical Service before beginning Carter’s Insurance Agency, which provided Federal Crop Insurance, a business that she successfully operated for over forty years. She was also the former co-owner of Lemon Creek Nursery. She was a member of the Marion Baptist Church in Williams. The Carter family has been a well known name in Quarter Horse Racing. She dearly loved horses and worked faithfully alongside her family. She was an excellent trainer, and had been a Jockey Agent and licensed Jockey.
Surviving are: her husband of sixty-six years, Mr. James Clyde Carter; two sons, Wes Carter and his wife Cathy and Brantley Carter and his wife Pat both of Bamberg; a brother, Clyde Brantley Kinard of Ruffin; three grandchildren, James Carter, III (Nancy) of Aiken, Steven Carter (Sara) of Columbia, and Brandi Carter Williams (Wayne) of Olar; and six great grandchildren, Ciera Carter, Austin Carter, Lane Carter, Mary Monroe Carter, Harlan Louise Carter, Timothy Williams. . She was preceded in death by a son, James Clyde Carter in 1975.
