Mary Ann Strickland

Mary Ann Morris Strickland, passed away on May 20, 2022.  Born on September 18, 1947, in Walterboro, she was a daughter to the late Edgar K. Morris, a farmer from Ruffin, SC who passed away in 1956 and Odelle L. Morris (Odelle M. Garris) also from Ruffin, SC who passed away in 2004.  

Mary Ann grew up in Ruffin, SC and attended Bells High School.  As a young adult, she moved to Atlanta, GA to live with her half-sister, Doris, and graduated from Dale Stribel Cosmetology School in Atlanta.  She was certified as a cosmetologist in both Georgia and South Carolina.  After returning to SC, she opened her own Beauty Salon in Walterboro, SC.  
For several years, Mary Ann was the primary caregiver for her mother Odelle.  Mary Ann loved serving sweet tea and locally grown boiled peanuts to relatives and friends who visited.  Mary Ann was a life long member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church. 

She is survived by her two sons, James Strickland, Jason Strickland and many grandchildren, cousins, nieces and a nephew.

She was predeceased by her parents, her step-father, Robert Garris; her sister, Betty K Morris Robertson Youmans; and her half-sister, Doris Morris Riddick Berry.

Mary Ann is laid to rest at Doctor's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery beside her loving parents.  She was loved by many and will be missed.
