Mrs. Mary Irene Cook Phillips, 83, of Varnville, entered into eternal rest Sunday afternoon, November 5, 2023, at The Oaks of Beaufort. She was the wife of the late Thurmond Govan Phillips.
Born August 21, 1940, in Hampton County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Cook and Irene Reid Cook. She was a retired employee of Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton. She was a member of Huggin Oak Church of God in Cummings. Mrs. Mary was an avid reader, quilter and gardener. She also loved to bake and enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are: her children, Susan Sisler of West Virginia, Arthur Sisler (Katrina) of Cummings, and Juli Metts (Ronnie) of Cummings; grandchildren, Ashton Blocker (Rebekah) of Varnville and Caroline Chaplin (Will) of Green Pond; step children, Dawn Sheehan of Tennessee, Doyle Phillips of Tennessee, and Dale Phillips of California; step granddaughter, Julia Ann Tillman of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Cora Cook of Cottageville; as well as many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Nell Mills, Juanita Youmans, Ruby Willis, and Pamela Cook; and her brothers, Wyman Cook and Berry Cook.

Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Thursday morning, November 9, 2023, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Varnville. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Pine Grove Road, Walterboro.
