Mr. Marvin Woodrow Baxley, known by many as “Doc”, age 75, a longtime resident of Cottageville, entered into rest Saturday evening, November 7, 2020, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Born December 27, 1944, in Hemingway, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Lamar Joseph Baxley and the late Vernell Howell Baxley. He retired from the CSX Railroad as a Yardmaster in the Tower after forty-two years of service. He enjoyed farming as well as hunting and was at one time a member of the Ridgeville Hunt Club. He also enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family members.
Surviving are: his sons, Barry Baxley and Steven Baxley; a brother, Joseph Baxley; a sister, Mary Louise Haggerty; ten grandchildren; multiple great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Jackson Baxley; and a brother, Thomas Baxley.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 o’clock Monday afternoon, November 16, 2020, from the graveside at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant. The service will be live streamed through The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapels and Crematory Facebook page and website.
