Mrs. Martha Scarboro Amerson, 74, of Walterboro, passed away Wednesday evening, April 21, 2021 at Colleton Medical Center.  She was the widow of the late Terven “Poppy” Amerson.

Born June 18, 1946 in Swainsboro, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Lonzie Scarboro and Madie Henry Scarboro.  She loved visiting the mountains with her sisters.  Fall and Winter were her favorite seasons, she enjoyed the cool weather and watching the leaves change colors.  She was an avid reader whose book collection was large and included a variety of romance, horror, and mysteries.  Among her favorite authors were John Grisham, Stephen King, Nicolas Sparks, Dorothea Benton Frank, and many other.  She enjoyed reading poetry by Shakespeare, Milton and Poe.  Music was her escape.  She loved listening to The Beatles, The Who, NSYNC, Bryan Adams, Chicago, and many others.  She was an avid NBA Basketball fan.  During the ‘80’s and ‘90’s the Boston Celtics and Larry Bird were her favorites and she never missed a game on Sunday afternoons.  More recently, her favorite team was Golden State Warriors and Steph Curry. More than anything, Nan loved her grandchildren and grand dogs unconditionally.

Surviving are: her children, Jana and Perry Ramsey, Marnie and Jeff Dekle, and Marc and Hillary Amerson; grandchildren, Ashley Ramsey (Andrew), Marcus Ramsey, Marley Dekle, Seth Dekle, Jack Burchfield, and Natalie Burchfield; sisters, Margie Scarboro Jones, Jean Scarboro Jones, and Carol Scarboro Jackson; She was preceded in death by her sister, Adele Chalker; and brothers-in-law, Dess Chalker, Randolph Jones, Kenneth Jones, and Alvin Jackson.
