Linda Sutton Obituary

Mrs. Linda Sutton, 71, of Cummings/Early Branch, entered into her eternal rest Monday, September 5, 2022 at her home after a brief illness.  She was the widow of the late James (Jimmy) Sutton with whom she enjoyed 19 years of marriage.

Born October 10, 1950 in Hampden, Maine, Linda was the daughter of Reta S. and Sim Gilmore.

Always an industrious woman, Linda held a wide variety of jobs throughout her life, working at Scotsman Industries in the late 80s and 90s, and then with Georgia Pacific at the Savannah River Mill, where she retired January 2022 with 25 years of service.  A large portion of her time at GP was spent as a Safety Coordinator, a position she took to heart, protecting the safety and well-being of her work family with all her abilities.

Linda was dedicated to her family and lived her life going above and beyond to take care of them.  She worked hard and long to ensure she provided financially, emotionally and spiritually for those she loved.

While working full time at GP, Linda set her sights on furthering her education and obtained her B.S. degree from Purdue University Global.  She loved children and dreamed of starting a home for orphaned and abandoned children.  Instead, the Lord led her to the mission group, Putting Prayers to Action, where Linda channeled her love into helping families in the Appalachian Mountain region.  With the support of her church, many close friends and her local community, she forged a partnership with Putting Prayers to Action and was able to tangibly demonstrate the love of Jesus through donations of hundreds of coats, toys, clothing, school supplies, paper products and most importantly, prayer to the children she loved so much.

Linda was an active member of Deep Branch Baptist Church, where she taught Children's church, Sunday School, assisted with Church Softball and worked with the WMU. True to form, she especially enjoyed Vacation Bible School and the children's holiday programs.  With a lifelong love for music, Linda also sang in the choir.

Linda will be remembered for the many lives she impacted through her faith, selflessness and acts of service.

Surviving are: her daughter, Melissa Anderson and husband Jamie of Early Branch; her son, William Norwood and wife Miranda of Cummings; grandchildren Boone and Slade Anderson and Anthony, Wednesday, Harrison, Charlotte and Michaela Norwood; sister, Joanne Pelletier of Cummings/Early Branch; brothers Edward (Butch) Gilmore and wife Barbara of Dayville, Connecticut, John Gilmore and wife Diane of Killingly, Connecticut, Tim Gilmore and wife Rita of South Windsor, Connecticut, Tom Gilmore of Simsbury, Connecticut; and sister-in-law Sheri Gilmore of Imperial Beach, California; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Kristen Leigh; and her brother, Richard Gilmore.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, September 13, 2022 at Deep Branch Baptist Church, Cummings.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2 pm in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Putting Prayers to Action, In Memory of Linda Sutton, 1336 Solway Meeting Road, Big Clifty, Kentucky 42712.  Alternately, memorials can be sent to Deep Branch Baptist Church and noted for Putting Prayers to Action.

and if, when it is all over I am asked, what I did with my life- I want to be able to say- "I offered love."
