Laura Barrineau Obituary

Mrs. Laura Channing Aiken Barrineau, 34, of Hendersonville, entered into rest Thursday evening, September 2, 2021, at her residence following and long and courageous battle against Ovarian cancer.

Born June 10, 1987, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was the only child of Mr. William Henry “Billy” Aiken, Jr. and Mrs. Anita Webster Aiken.  She was a graduate of Colleton Preparatory Academy and attended the Cosmetics Arts Institute.  Ever since the age of 9, Laura knew she wanted to be a mother and a hairstylist.  She began helping out in any area that she could at the Head Shed in Walterboro, which was the foundation of her career.   Laura made a name for herself in the work that she dearly loved.   Laura loved others, she would time and time again show her enormous generosity for others by doing anything that she thought was needed.   Even in her journey with cancer, she used her experience and illness to minister to others and give strength and courage wherever possible.  Laura will always be remembered as a social butterfly and the beautiful person that she was.  Her soul truly shined through her eyes and it was the world’s good fortune to know her.

Surviving in addition to her parents of Ruffin are: her husband and best friend of seventeen years, Jamie Barrineau and two children, her sixteen-year-old daughter, Lacey Grace Barrineau and nine-year-old son, Jacob Ashton Barrineau; and grandmother, Mary Ann Herndon.  She is also survived by a large and extended host of family and friends to include; three aunts, Charlotte Polk, Tammy Lyons, and Charlotte Aiken Hiott; an uncle, Daniel Webster; a niece, Chloe; a cousin, Meagan; her father and mother-in-law, James and Teresa Barrineau; and a brother-in-law whom she loved as a son, Lance Barrineau.  She also leaves behind her beloved Labrador, “Lady” and two Boykins, “Cooper” and “Chica”.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roy Webster, William Henry Aiken, Sr., and Sherwood and Janelle Kinard Herndon.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: HCC Lighthouse Fund, a charity organization established to help cover the needs of gynecological cancer patients for such things as travel, food, lodging and wigs. Checks can be sent to the MUSC Foundation and designated to the HCC Lighthouse Fund, 86 Jonathan Lucas Street, MSC 955, Charleston, South Carolina 29425.

Funeral services will be conducted 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, September 7, 2021, from Pine Grove Baptist Church, No. 1, 99 Pine Grove Road, Walterboro.  The Reverend Kenneth McCaskill officiating.   Interment will follow in the churchyard.   The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 2 o’clock that afternoon in the church sanctuary.

The family has requested that for those attending, because of the recent surges in the number of Covid Cases, that all wear a mask during the visitation and funeral.
