Larry McClanahan Obituary

Larry Gene McClanahan, 75, of Cottageville, passed away following an illness Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.

Born April 19, 1948, in St. Albans, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Lemuel Wesley McClanahan and Audrey Ercyl Womack McClanahan.

In his early life, he was a member of a bluegrass band labeled the VIP’s. Larry was a United States Army Veteran, following his time in the military he worked as a heavy equipment operator and retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers. He loved to be out and enjoying nature riding four wheelers and camping. He leaves behind two beloved dogs, Coco and Maizie.

Larry is survived by his son, Lemuel Jason McClanahan and his wife Tammy of Florida; a brother, Gary Lee McClanahan and his wife Robin of St. Albans, West Virginia; two sisters, Susan Clemens of Cottageville, and Peggy McClanahan Dixon and her husband Jim of Florida; his grandson, Wesley McClanahan, and multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McClanahan is preceded in death by a brother in law, Howard Clemens.

Funeral services will be held in South Charleston, West Virginia; The Good Shepherd Mortuary, 335 5th Ave, South Charleston, WV 25303, has charge of arrangements. Details will be announced at a later date.
