John Shafer

Mr. John Eugene Shafer, 54, of Yemassee, entered into rest Friday morning, January 14, 2022, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. 

Born August 14, 1967, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, he was a  son of the late Thomas Carl Shafer and the late Helen Larrabee Shafer.  He made the Lowcountry of South Carolina his home nearly twenty-three years ago and will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors and the joy he took in laughter.  He enjoyed deer hunting and absolutely loved adventuring to find waterfalls all over the country. 

Surviving are: his wife of twenty-two years, Mrs. Tonia Renee Shafer; five children, Alyssa Adams of Enterprise, Alabama, Katlyn Morris of El Paso, Texas, John Shafer, Jr. of Yemassee, Luke Shafer of Yemassee, and Crystal Shafer of Pennsylvania; a brother, Daniel Shafer of Pennsylvania; and two sisters, Phoebe Rice of New York and Sara Adams of Illinois.  He is also survived by three grandchildren, Hunter Morris, Alex Varney, and Aleah Varney with the newest expected this coming April, Haley Jordan; as well as his mother-in-law, Rosemary Easterlin of Yemassee and his father-in-law, Ronald Adams of Ohio. 

Funeral services will be conducted 6 o’clock Tuesday evening, January 18, 2022, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.   The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony until 8 o’clock.
