Mr. James Ray Mowery, 69, of Varnville, passed away Friday, June 5, 2020 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Patricia Geer Mowery. Jim and Pat were married on May 27, 1977 and were married for 42 years.
Born September 16, 1950 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Kenneth Mowery and Betty Emily Vorhees Mowery. Jim graduated from Patterson Co-op High School in 1968 and attended Wright State University. He was employed at Roseman’s Bakery form October 1964 to August 1968. He also worked at Harco Tool from September 1966 to August 1969. Jim joined the National Guard in September 1969, serving his country faithfully for 20 years, retiring as a First Sergeant. He was employed at Ryerson Steel for many years. In 1986, Jim and his late wife, Pat and a close friend, Karen Roach, started ASAP Office Services. In 1992, Jim and Pat sold the business and moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina. He was also a surveyor for Surveying Consultants.
Jim was a True American and loved his country. He was a very giving and faithful friend who loved people. Jim will be extremely missed by all who knew him. His love will be in our hearts forever
Surviving are: his sisters, Norma Derr (Butch), Pat Jewell (Robert), and Donna Cupp; sister-in-law, Belva Northcutt; numerous nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Jim Reynolds, Douglas Smith, Regina and Greg Moorman; as well as many other family members, close friends and associates. In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Bob Swigert and Eddie Cupp.
Graveside funeral services will be held 12:30, Saturday afternoon, June 20, 2020 at Grimes Cemetery. The Reverend Dr. Tommy Kelly officiating.
