Mr. James Hiers, Jr., known by all as “Junior”, age 72, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Wednesday evening, March 18, 2020, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Born July 14, 1947, in Lodge, South Carolina, he was a son of the late James Gus Hiers and the late Virginia Huff Davis. “Junior” was no stranger to hard work and will always be remembered for his strong work ethic. He owned and operated a trucking company, becoming affectionately known as “Red-Eye” by family, friends, and fellow truckers. He dearly loved his tractors and lawnmowers as well as enjoyed fishing. He also possessed a great talent with woodworking and crafted many things, especially stools which are treasured in the hearts of his family and friends. He cherished and loved his entire family unconditionally.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty-three years, Mrs. Judy Benton Hiers; two children, James Franklin “Jamie” Hiers and his wife Renee of Smoaks and Wendy Hiers Craven and her husband Terry “T-Bone” of Walterboro; a son-in-law, Lionel Way of Walterboro; a brother, Herbert Hiers, Sr. and his wife Sharon of Walterboro; and two sisters, Mary Ann Hiers of Varnville and Anne Hiers McCranie of Georgia. He was “Pappy” to his ten grandchildren, Taylor Nivens (John), Jamilynn Hiers (Aaron), Austin Sparks, Rylan Hiers, Ashton Hiers, Braeden Hiers, Collin Hiers, C.T. Craven, Tracey Lane (Brandon) and Tiffany Craven; three great grandchildren, Emily Aiden, and Madilyn; and several nieces and nephews to include a special nephew, “Half-Pint” Hiers and his wife Stephanie; as well as his three beloved pups, Senator, Dixie, and Reese. His daughter, Tammy Hiers Way, preceded him earlier in the day on Wednesday in death.
