Isaac Robinson

Mr. Isaac Tuten Robinson, Sr., affectionately known to everyone as “Penny”, 87, of Hampton, entered into eternal rest Wednesday morning, September 1, 2021 at his residence.

Born January 3, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph Robinson and Veronica Tuten Robinson.  Penny grew up on the county line between Grays and Hampton, SC.  He received his GED in the United States Army and is a Veteran of the Korean War having served from 1955-1957.  While serving in the Army, he discovered a passion for welding and machining.  On exiting the Army, he went to work with his brother-in-law and built the first fence around Augusta National Golf Club.

Eventually returning to Hampton, he married the love of his life, Shirley Woods Robinson on June 14, 1958.  Working in various machine shops in South Carolina, he later began a teaching career with Columbia Vocational Trade School and then Wade Hampton High School, before opening up his own business, Robinson Welding & Machine Shop in Hampton, SC in the 1980’s.  He was a husband, a father, a follower of Christ.  Brother, Veteran, machinist, engineer, trail blazer of new ideas, teacher, listener, counselor, and friend to anyone that needed something that was broken to be fixed.  A man of few words, but when he said something, he meant every word. 

He was always at home at Varnville First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for many years and taught many Sunday School classes.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and the fellowship with other men.  He touched so many lives for Christ and will be missed by all that knew him.

Penny was first and foremost a man of God, a wonderful husband to Shirley Ann, a loving father of four, Veronica (husband Michael) Moore, Isaac T. Robinson, Jr. (Joy Gamble), Marion (wife Nancy) and Rebecca Ginn.  Surviving grandchildren are Susan, Alex, John, Chelsea, Jacob, Jenna, Joseph; and 4 great grandchildren, Duke, Jack, Autumn, and Kensley.  Also surviving is his sister, Guelda Robinson Hoats; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joline Tuten and W.J. Robinson. 

Graveside services will be held 4 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, September 4, 2021 at Varnville Cemetery.
