Mr. Freddie Nelson Rickus, known by many as “Rick”, age 77, of Cottageville, entered into rest Monday morning, March 15, 2021, at his residence.
Born February 21, 1944 in Gering, Nebraska, he was a son of the late Charles Otto Rickus and Mildred Belle Rickus. He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy as a Corpsman at the Charleston Naval Hospital. He worked as a distribution salesman, having primarily worked for Shasta Beverage Company. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks – Lodge No. 1988 in Walterboro. He will always be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
Surviving are: three sons, Derrick Charles Rickus and his wife Dawn of Bessemer City, North Carolina, Anthony Scott Rickus and his wife Lisa of Summerville, and Tracey Alan Rickus and his wife Melissa of Summerville; his son’s mother, Judith Spence of Summerville; and six grandchildren, Lauren, Tiffany, Coleton, Devin, Andrew, and Macie, Chloe and Caleb.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, March 18, 2021, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to one’s choice in an animal society or to a Leukemia research and treatment organization.
