Elwood "Woody" Crosby Obituary

Mr. Elwood Kirby Crosby, known by all as “Woody”, age 72, of the Chessey Creek Community near Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday morning, January 2, 2021, at the Roper Hospital in Charleston. 

 

Born October 12, 1948, in Colleton County, South Carolina, he was the son of the late W. Kirby Crosby and the late Ernestine Hudson Crosby.   He served our country faithfully in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and retired after thirty-nine years of service from the Process Accounting Department of Spawar. 

 

Woody was a member of the James Island Masonic Lodge, No. 396 – Ancient Free Masons, HeJass Temple of Scottish Rite , Omar Shrine Temple and Royal Order of Jesters – Court No. 113.    He held a lifetime honorary membership in Ben Kedem Shriners Temple in West Virginia and was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks – Walterboro Lodge No. 1988.  He always considered his family and accepting Jesus as his savior as his greatest accomplishments in life.  He lived a life of service.  He was awarded the Walt Disney Award from the Omar Shrine and served as the Chief Aide for four Potentates and was also Director for Court 113 in 2003.   He was an active and dedicated member of Jacksonboro Baptist Church. 

 

He also possessed an avid admiration for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed golf, college football and baseball.   He was a family man.  He was the center of his family and took pride in being a grandfather, teaching his grandchildren how to hunt and fish.  Another large part of his life was hosting gatherings and cookouts which were always a true pleasure for those involved. 

 

Surviving are: his wife of fifty-two years, Linda J. Crosby; a daughter, Sonya C. Floyd and her husband Mike of James Island; a sister, Elizabeth Crosby Floyd of Walterboro; two grandchildren William Kirby Floyd, and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Floyd; and a nephew, Jamie Allen Floyd.  He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jimmie Allen Floyd. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to the following; Jacksonboro Baptist Church, Post Office Box 129, Jacksonboro, South Carolina 29452; Omar Shrine,   176 Patriots Point Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, January 6, 2021, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.   The Reverend Rev Temple officiating.  Interment with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro.
