Mrs. Doris Craven Smoak, age 86, entered into eternal rest Friday evening, June 19, 2020, at her home in Walterboro surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Amedisys Hospice. She was the wife of the late Mr. Clyde Elic Smoak.
Born August 25, 1933, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Jarvis Barnes Craven and the late Laura Keegan Craven. She was the first secretary for the Farm Bureau of Colleton County and served there faithfully for forty years until her retirement. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family. She always showed unconditional sacrifice and love. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, of which her grandfather, the late E.D. Craven served as the first pastor and founder. We are assured that she is now present with The Lord. Doris was also an avid gardener, each year cultivating a beautiful garden in which she took great pride.
Surviving are: her son, Michael E. Smoak and his wife Janine Thomas Smoak; her four grandsons, Kevin Smoak, Shawn Smoak and his wife Leyla and their children Jesse and Stephen, Brett Smoak and his wife Jackie and their children, Olivia, Cynthia, and Jackson, Jason Smoak and his wife Vanessa and their children Sawyer, Nathaniel, and Nadine; as well as a sister-in-law Adeline Craven. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alphonse and Monroe, who served in World War II; and Blease and Jarvis, Jr.; and a sister, Alease Craven.
The family wishes to express their love and great appreciation to her grandson, Kevin who faithfully took care of his grandmother for the last ten weeks of her life. They are also grateful for Amedisys Hospice, especially team members Heather DeLong and April Mixson.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Hollings Cancer Center, 86 Jonathan Lucas Street, Charleston, South Carolina 29425.
