Doris Freeman Obituary

Mrs. Doris Jeanette O’Quinn Freeman, 86, entered into eternal rest Wednesday evening, June 1, 2022, with her loving family by her side at her residence, at 1595 Charleston Highway, Hampton, South Carolina.  She was the widow of Mr. Lloyd Freeman.

Born March 3, 1936 in Bluffton, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Alvin O’Quinn and Ruth Cleo Dean O’Quinn.  Doris was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.  Doris was a blessing to all who knew her.  She enjoyed spending time with her children, her family and her friends.  Doris’s loving kindness, constant helping hands and her beautiful smile will never be forgotten by her family, her friends, or her pets.  She was always loving, loyal, devoted and dedicated.

Doris worked in a sewing factory for several years, a cotton mill for ten years, Holiday Inn for ten years, and Lanes Restaurant for 25 years as a wonderful waitress, hostess and cook.  She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandma, and great great grandma, and always a homemaker.  Doris was a trooper, she fought so hard to stay with us here until the end.  With each story, each tear, and each tender memory, a life such as her will always fill a place in our hearts.

Doris is survived by: three children, George H. Cooler, Sr. and his wife Ruby of Early Branch, SC, Catherine C. Slowik and her husband Edward of Ridgeland, SC, and Cecil L. Humbert and his wife Holly of Guyton, Georgia; step daughters, Janet Peeples Miller Adams and her husband Steve of San Francisco, CA, and Shari F. Manders and her husband David of Beech Island, SC; step sons, Lloyd Freeman, Jr. of North Augusta, SC, and Shane Freeman and his wife Denise of Macon, GA; brother-in-law, Earl Freeman and his wife Linda of Hampton, SC; and four sisters, Barbara Johnson and her husband Olin of Ridgeland, SC, Mary E. Sauls of Ridgeland, SC, Dorothy M. Sauls DeWitt and her husband Hubert of Walterboro, SC, and Margaret Thames and her husband Jody of Early Branch, SC.

Doris is known affectionately as Grandma Doris, to the loving host of 35 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; and 16 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her son, Harvey Carroll Cooler; stepsons, J. Barney Turner and H. Van Peeples, Jr.; siblings: Diane O’Quinn, Bubba O’Quinn, Edward C. O’Quinn, Phyllis Gertrude (Sherrie) Tanner, Charlene Smith, Betty Jean Martin, and Carlyle Charlie O’Quinn; two very precious grandsons, George H. Cooler, Jr. and Gary W. Slowik; two great grandsons, Dennis Blake Kennedy and Zachery Harold Cooler; and a host of other family members.

Funeral services will be held 5 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2022 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 6581 Old Salkehatchie Road, Early Branch, SC.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
