Mr. Danny Carl DeWitt, 86, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Saturday evening, September 26, 2020 at Summerville Community Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Rebecca Bank DeWitt, to whom he was married for 52 years.
Born December 30, 1933 in Walterboro, he was a son of the late Benjamin Carl Dewitt and Mada Savage DeWitt. For many years Danny was a truck driver for Besteel Manufacturing in Walterboro and then for Nettles Sand Company in Walterboro. Mr. Danny was “the Voice of Walterboro” and icon for the town he loved as a radio announcer and host on WALD. He, along with his wife, also worked for The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home for many years.
Anyone who knew Mr. Danny knew of his love for music, especially his love of playing his steel guitar. If you knew him, you also knew of his love for the Olde House Café, which was his second home. He was a member of the Walterboro Church of God. He also loved animals, especially his little dog, Angel, that went everywhere with him.
Surviving are: his son, David DeWitt and his wife Michele of Fort Pierce, Florida; many nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Nubbin and Leanne, both of Walterboro; and a host of special friends that he considered his family. He was preceded in death by a son, Danny C. DeWitt; sisters, Audrey Lemacks and Evelyn Tanner; and a brother, Leo DeWitt.

Mr. Danny will be interred in a private service at Glendale Memorial Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum.
