Chief Petty Officer Charles E. Smith, Sr. United States Navy (Ret.), age 82, entered into rest Saturday morning, January 16, 2021, at the Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro.
Born May 12, 1938, in Florence, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Herman Smith and the late Lucille Singletary- Smith. He served faithfully in the United States Navy where he specialized in the legal department and retired following thirty years of service. Mr. Smith moved up the rankings during his tenure with the Navy, having received several certificates, awards, and diplomas for criminal justice, paralegal, and military police. After his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he was employed as a salesman for Montgomery Ward and Lazy Boy Furniture.
Leaving to cherish his memories are his four children; Neno “Rick” Ravenell, Chazz Smith & (Dee), Eric "Troy" Smith, and Tammy Ellis (Steven); fifteen grandchildren Bassanya (Quine) & (Benjamin), Naarah (Nay), Ariel & (Leon), Neno, LaToya, LaKisha, Tamara & (Jason), Swanniqua, Erica, Brittany, Alazha, Jordan, Jaylen, Caleb, Destiny ; and nine great grandchildren Chaunna, Chauncey, Bayleigh, Khalon, Adrian, Josten, Jeremiah, Brian, and baby on-board. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special recognition to cousins Robin and Theo Burroughs who were always there to support during Charles’ time of illness.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, January 28, 2021, 10:30am at New Life Christian Fellowship Church, 358 Liberty Hall Road, Goose Creek.
Interment with full military honors will he held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
