Mr. Billy Wayne Merritt, Sr., 76, of Coosawhatchie, entered into eternal rest Wednesday morning, November 10, 2021 at his residence.
Born August 30, 1945 in Hampton County, he was a son of Edward “Eddie” Navarrete and the late Mary Agnes Cook Navarrete. He was self-employed in the Transportation Industry, owning Palmetto Coach, Merritts Garage and Palmetto Towing. He was a Christian man who was a hard worker and possessed a big heart, always helping anyone in need.
Surviving are: his wife, Irene Smoak Merritt of Coosawhatchie; sons, Billy Wayne Merritt, Jr. of Yemassee, and Hunter L. Merritt of Coosawhatchie; siblings, Glenda Lane of Mechanisville, Maryland, JoeAnn Navarrete of Charleston, Cathy Lamb of Charleston, Raul Navarrete of Charleston, and Mary Ellen Tortorici of Port Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Navarrete.
Funeral services will be held 2 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, November 17, 2021 at Spirit of Life Ministries in Varnville. Interment will in Cook Hull Schaffer Cemetery, Old Salkehatchie Road, Varnville.
