Ava Jane Thorson, 95, of Walterboro, passed away Monday evening, August 3, 2020, at the Colleton Medical Center. Born March 4, 1925 in Ruffin, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Walter Black and the late Vera Crosby Black Blackwood. She was the wife of the late Thomas Thorson.
Mrs. Thorson, since a child had been a long time member of Doctors Creek Baptist Church. She was a high school graduate from Savannah High School. Mrs. Thorson worked as a welder for some time in her life; later working as a counselor for Billy Graham along with her husband. She was and will always be known as a strong willed lady.
She is survived by: grandchildren, Robert Thorson and his wife, Katie of Texas and Denise Thorson Bradley of North Carolina; great grandchildren, Haley, Remi, Davnie, Gabriel and Shannon . She is also survived by two nieces, Barbara Keeley and Lorraine Lifgren both of Minnesota
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her only son, James Robert Thorson and a brother, Dwight Black
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 o’clock, Friday, August 7, 2020, from Doctors Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 126 Doctors Creek Rd, Walterboro, SC 29488. The Reverend Bob Johnson and his son Reverend Bill Johnson will officiate the service.
