Mrs. Ann Hatcher Benton, 89, of Smoaks, entered into rest Sunday morning, August 7, 2022, at her residence. She was the loving wife of seventy years to the late Mr. J.P. Benton, Sr.
Born January 9, 1933, in Pasco County, Florida, she was a daughter of the late John Hatcher and the late Ollie Goodman Hatcher. She was a supervisor with General Telephone Electric having retired after thirty-seven years of service. Making South Carolina their home in 1990, they were formerly members of Green Pond Baptist Church before moving their membership to Hunters Chapel Baptist Church in Smoaks. At their church, she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union and served on the Social Committee. Ann was a true prayer warrior, being strongly in prayer and spending many hours in prayer.
Surviving are: a son, James Perry Benton, Jr. and his wife Janene of Lodge; a daughter, Nancy Ann Benton of Smoaks; a sister, Frieda Starr of Lakeland, Florida; seven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Crockett.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in her memory to: Hunters Chapel Baptist Church, 9375 Hunters Chapel Road, Bamberg, South Carolina 29481.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Friday morning, August 12, 2022, from Hunters Chapel Baptist Church, 9375 Hunters Chapel Road, Smoaks. The Reverend Alvin Jeffcoat officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony that morning beginning at 10 o’clock in the church sanctuary.
