Albert "Al" Douglas Brodie, 71, passed away on August 20, 2023, at his residence in Erhardt, SC. Al was a doting husband, brother, father, Pappy, and friend. Always wearing a joyful smile on his face, he loved good company and rarely ever met a stranger.
Al is survived by his sister, Sherri Jalbert of Merrimack, NH, his daughter, Crystal Brodie of Charleston, SC, his son, Doug Brodie of Walterboro, SC and his beloved grandchildren, Bryce, Ryan, and Alex Brodie of Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Irma Brodie, and his wife, Miaja Brodie.
Born March 22, 1952, Al was adopted by Lewis and Irma Brodie at the age of 10. He lived a loving and fulfilled childhood as an only child however, in 2011, at the age of 59, he was reunited with his birth sister, Sherri.
Al spent his younger adult life residing in New Hampshire and the greater of his adult life was spent raising his family in Cottageville, SC.
A Vietnam Veteran, Al proudly served his country in the Army for one year and in the Navy for eight years. After his military service, he pursued a career in trucking, dedicating himself to his work until his retirement at the age of 70. His trucker friends affectionately coined his CB handle as "Weasel".
Outside of his professional life, Al had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed NASCAR, fishing, woodworking, singing with the traveling church group, volunteering, and building and tinkering with various projects. His favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends.
The family welcomes guests to join in a memorial service to celebrate Al's life, which will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 3 PM to 5 PM at Herndon Funeral Chapels & Crematory in Walterboro. Those interested in speaking are invited to bring a funny story or cherished memory of Al to share.
Al's caring heart, cheerful laugh, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Al's honor to a Veteran organization of your choice.
