Mrs. Zelda Rae DeWitt Hughes, 53, of Walterboro, entered into rest Tuesday morning, March 29, 2022, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.
Born August 18, 1968, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was a daughter of Mrs. Martha Bailey DeWitt and the late Mr. Hearl Benjamin DeWitt. Zelda had a huge and loving heart. She played a vital role in rasing countless children throughout her lifetime and was affectionally known by many of them as “ZZ”. She possessed a great talent with crocheting and baking, often times baking for many of life’s celebrations for those she loved.
Surviving in addition to her mother of Walterboro are: two sisters, Jennifer DeWitt Dismuke (James) of Alabama and Kay DeWitt Avant (Timmy) of Walterboro; nieces and nephews, Amber Sinclair (Steven), T.J. Avant (Whitney), Brandon Avant (Haylei Godley), and Skylar Avant (Josh Myzell); 6 great nieces and nephews; and one she dearly loved as her own, Margaret Girardeau. She was preceded in death by a nephew, Rusty Dismuke, Jr.; and a great niece, Hali Avant.
