Yvonne Crosby Bird

Ms. Lizzie Yvonne Crosby Bird, 97, of Walterboro, South Carolina, left us peacefully on July 30, 2025.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, Yvonne will always be remembered for her kindness and her loving ways.  Yvonne was a retired seamstress and a member of the First Christian Church in Walterboro. She devoted herself to her church and to her family.  She had a quick smile, giving spirit and a loving nature that all could see.

Yvonne was born on September 4, 1927, in Islandton, South Carolina to Daniel Edwin Crosby and Verna Ulmer Crosby. She was raised on a farm, along with her two older brothers, Daniel Edwin Crosby Jr and Eugene Hugh Crosby.

She was proceeded into eternal rest by her husband Harry Clyde Bird Jr, USN Retired. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Thomas D. and Francis H. Carter of Walterboro; Julie S. and Dennis Somers of Bedford, Virginia: Patricia B. and Robert Durham of Vienna, Illinois; Daniel C. and Maryann S. Bird of Walterboro; and Harry J. and Rhonda S. Bird of Prosperity, South Carolina.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and their spouses, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held as she is laid to rest with her husband, Harry, in the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street Beaufort, South Carolina at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025.  The Reverend Jerry Thompson officiating.
