Wyman Frank Kinsey, 78, of 3825 Lodge Highway, Smoaks, entered into his eternal rest Monday evening, October 8, 2012, following an extended illness at his residence while under the care of Amedisys Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Friday morning, October 12, 2012, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Spencer Brotherson officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. The family has requested that attending members of the South Carolina National Guard and Smoaks Masonic Lodge No. 231 serve as honorary escorts and their presence is requested at 10:30 that morning at The Funeral Chapel.
A native and lifelong resident of Smoaks, South Carolina, he was born August 24, 1934 and was a son of the late Francis Marion Kinsey and the late Edna Johns Kinsey having been reared on his parent's dairy farm. Outside of his family, Wyman had three main devotions in his life, his service to his Country, his involvement within his church, and his membership in the Masonic Lodge. He served his country faithfully through his dedication to the South Carolina National Guard, where he worked for nearly forty-three years before retiring as a Federal Technician, and was once recognized as the Non-Commission Officer of the Year. He was an active member of Carter's Ford Baptist Church where he was faithful in many aspects of the church's work and ministry. At his church, he for many years was the Cemetery Committee Chairman, a former member and past chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Director, and Church Usher. He was a third degree Master Mason holding membership at Smoaks Masonic Lodge No. 231 - Ancient Free Masons where he was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason in 1963 and had twice served as Master of the Lodge. Wyman was a well known figure in the Third Masonic District of South Carolina, always traveling with fellow brothers to other Lodges within the district to attend regular communications and to assist with the conferring of Lodge work. A friend to many, Wyman will always be remembered for the love and devotion he possessed for his dear wife, the service he gave to his Country, and the friend he was to the many who knew him throughout the county.
Surviving are: his loving wife of forty-nine years, Mrs. Jean Linder Kinsey; a daughter, Paula Jeanette Kinsey Hiers and her husband Dennis of Walterboro; and a brother, Marshall Eugene Kinsey of Smoaks. There are three grandchildren, Megan Denise Hiers of Dallas, Texas, Kristina Paulette Hiers of Walterboro, and Joshua Dean Hiers of Walterboro that also survive. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Richard Hiers.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Carter's Ford Baptist Church, care of Post Office Box 1, Lodge, South Carolina 29082; or to Amedisys Hospice, 203 Eddie Chasteen Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
