Mr. Witsell Howard Beach, Sr., affectionately known as “Poppa Witsell”, 77, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Tuesday evening, December 7, 2021 at Trident Medical Center.
Born May 31, 1944 in Colleton County, he was the youngest son of the late Lewis Houston Beach and Ethel Robertson Beach. He was the owner of Beach Logging and had been in the logging business all his life. He was a lifelong member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church and was always present and quietly serving his church in some capacity. He and his son-in-law, John, were members of the Men’s Breakfast Club together. Witsell dearly loved his family. He supported his children in anything they did and never missed his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a big Dallas Cowboys fan.
Surviving are: his wife of 50 years, Maxine Maynor Beach of Walterboro; children, Witsell H. Beach, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Walterboro, Crystal Davenport and her husband Alvin of Aiken and Paige Crews and her husband John of Walterboro; grandchildren, Witsell H. Beach, III, Mallory Beach (Holden Smoak), Charleston Beach, Jeb Crews, John Avery Crews (nicknamed “JAC” by his Poppa), and Bryce Zelmer; great grandson, Levi Walker Smoak. He is also survived by his bonus family, Kathy Morgan and her family. Witsell is preceded in death by 7 brothers and 2 sisters. He has one surviving brother, James Edward Beach of Walterboro; one surviving brother-in-law, Parker Lyons; one surviving sister-in-law, Helen Beach; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his shadow, Skipper.

Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock, Saturday, December 10, 2021 at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 5277 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
