Mr. William James Smoak, 55, of 1400 Smoak Road, Walterboro, entered into his state of eternal rest Saturday morning, January 23, 2010, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.



Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Tuesday afternoon, January 26, 2010, from Doctors Creek Baptist Church, 126 Doctors Creek Road, Walterboro. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.



Mr. Smoak was born October 18, 1954, in Colleton County and was a son of Mrs. Vergie Jones Smoak and the late Mr. Clayton Lamar Smoak. He was a commercial crabber having owned and operated his own business entities the span of his career. He was a member of Doctors Creek Baptist Church in Walterboro and will be fondly remembered for his love of the outdoors especially his avid love of fishing, hunting, and gardening.



Surviving in addition to his mother of Walterboro are: his wife of thirty-six years, Mrs. Leila Tobias Smoak; a son, James Anthony Smoak and his wife Monica of Walterboro; a daughter, Tina Schellenger and her husband Robert of Green Pond; a brother, Clayton Lamar Smoak, Jr. of Walterboro; and three sisters, Shirley Brown of Walterboro, Sandra Walker of Smoaks, and Helen Priester of Ruffin. There are nine grandchildren that also survive. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Curtis Smoak; a brother, Edward Lamar Smoak; and a sister, Kitty Strickland.
