Mr. William Vernon Price, Jr., affectionately known by many as Billy and Pappy, 83, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Thursday afternoon, January 2, 2014, while surrounded by his loving family at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was the husband of the late Allie Juanita Polk Price who was the light and love of his life for fifty-two years.
Born November 14, 1930, a native of Walterboro, he was a son of the late William Vernon Price, Sr. and the late Vergie Idell Robertson Price. He served faithfully in the South Carolina National Guard where he retired after twenty years as a Staff Sergeant. He was employed by Asten Hill in Walterboro, where after thirty-five years of dedicated service he retired as a loom mechanic. He was an active member of Evergreen Christian Church in Walterboro where he served as Deacon and was a member of the Choir.
He was an avid sports lover. He helped organize and bring to Colleton County the sport of Midget League Football and for many years coached the Little League Baseball Team known as the Civitans. His voice became known as that of the Wildcats, Wolverines, and Bulldogs due to his many years of colorfully announcing game after game for these teams. Because of his commitment, allegiance, and love of the sport, he was inducted into the Colleton County Football Hall of Fame in 2010 and to this day remains as the Bulldogs greatest fan. There are many memories this wonderful man shared with the world. Billy was an unforgettable character who accomplished great things during his lifetime, but of all these, his greatest joy and pride in life was his family and church. Many will recall his vehicles, lawnmower, or even an old bass boat which portrayed his wit and unmatched humor in his true personality; whatever your memory, cherish that just as he cherished each and every one he knew and loved.
Surviving are: two sons, Corky Price (Stacey) and Casey Price (Wanda); a daughter, Cherry Price Douglas (Tony); a son-in-law, Charles Moseley all of Walterboro; a brother, Frankie Price (Nellie) of Texas; and a sister, Harriett Fishback of Ohio. There are seven grandchildren Christy Moseley Gore (Justin) of Daniel Island, Allie Moseley Walker (Jesse), Corey Price, Debi Price, Dustin Douglas (Nicole), and Cameron Price Warner (Jimbo) all of Walterboro, and Kalyn Douglas of Charleston; nine great grandchildren, Emma and Griffin Gore, Carson, Elise, and Charlie Walker, Emily and Jake Wall, and Cayson and Penn Warner as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members that also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter in 2012, Coty Price Moseley.
