Mr. William Huston Bishop, Jr. affectionately known by many as “Junior”, age 88, entered into eternal rest Friday morning, December 11, 2015, at his home in Canadys surrounded by his loving family and many dear friends, including Brandy Woods, while under the care of Hospice Care of South Carolina.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Monday morning, December 14, 2015, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Andy Garrett and The Reverend Joe Marchant officiating. Interment will follow in Peniel Baptist Churchyard, 37 Forks Road, Islandton.
Born January 28, 1927 in Berkley County, South Carolina, he was the last surviving of nine children born to the late William Huston Bishop, Sr. and the late Mary Catherine Litchfield Bishop. He served our country faithfully in the United States Army, having been drafted in 1952, serving during the Korean Conflict while stationed in Germany. Mr. Bishop was known for his strong work ethic. He retired from J.P. Stevens in Walterboro as a Cloth Room Inspector prior to beginning with Colleton County Solid Waste where he managed the Canadys site until his final retirement in October of 2013. In earlier years, among other occupations held, he worked for Liberty Life Insurance Company. A devoted Christian, he was a longtime member of Canadys First Baptist Church, where he was active in many aspects of the church’s work and was currently serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Teaching and letting others know of Christ was one of his life’s greatest dedications. He will always be remembered as a dear and loving husband, father, and grandfather, who centered his life around the wants and needs of his family.
Surviving are: his wife of sixty-four years, Mrs. Ruby Martin Bishop; his son, Christopher William Bishop and his wife Robin of Canadys; four grandchildren, Joseph Huston Bishop of Navarre, Florida, Christopher William Bishop, Jr. and his wife Sonya of Canadys, December Lynn Russo and her husband Timothy of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and Amanda Davidson of Canadys; and six great grandchildren, Emily, Kira, Tristan, Marley, Declan, and Sophia.
