William "Bill" Gardner, Sr

November 18, 1929 — January 25, 2013


William Edward "Bill" Gardner Sr., died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, in Walterboro, S.C.

He was the husband of Hazel Ann Gardner, his wife of 59 years.

He retired after 30 years of service to Westinghouse Corporation as an electronic technician. He enjoyed spending time with his family and volunteering his time to the community. He and his wife were among the founding members of the South Carroll Swim Club. For decades he could be found volunteering at the Winfield fire company's annual carnival. Even after moving south, he liked visiting during carnival time to enjoy the fireworks and the community that he called home.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are siblings Troy Gardner and wife Normie, Lena Dean and husband Fredrick, Wilmalee Marshall and husband Michael, Billie Press and husband Banner, Banis Gardner, and Glen Gardner and wife Renita; children Peggy Darlene Fisher and husband Thomas, Ruth Ann Montz and husband Steven, William Edward Gardner Jr. and wife Kimberly, David Eugene Gardner, and Cynthia Louise Deserisy and husband Patrick; 16 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by siblings Bobby Gardner and Jane Gardner.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N., Frederick, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department, 1320 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.
