William Rufus Chassereau, Jr.

William Rufus Chassereau Jr., 73, passed away on January 4, 2026, at his home in Estill, South Carolina. He was born on August 27, 1952, to William Rufus Chassereau Sr. and the late Doris Chassereau.

He is survived by his father, Rufus Chassereau Sr.; his wife, Elaine Chassereau; his brother, Dennis Chassereau (Evelyn); his daughters, Lynne Phillips (Aubrey Goettee) and Debby Tebeau (Jonathan); his granddaughters, Leanna Adams (Graham) and Cameron Harrison (Parker); his grandson, Jonathan Tebeau II (China); four great granddaughters, Leighton Tebeau, Ava Grace Adams, Arya Tebeau, and Kennedy Elaine Harrison, due in April 2026; one great grandson, Jaxon Tebeau; one sister-in-law, Jen Chahanovich (Bruce); and two nephews, Ryan Chahanovich and Neil Chassereau. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Tuten Chassereau.

Rufus worked as a log truck driver for over four decades, known to many by “Freight Train.” He enjoyed fishing, particularly trips to Lake Okeechobee, Florida, as well as hunting, gardening, and taking afternoon drives around the county, with his wife, Elaine, of 56 years.

He has gone on to his eternal home, where we take comfort in knowing he is once again hunting and fishing in Heaven, reunited with the many friends and loved ones who shared those passions with him.

Graveside services will be held 3 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, January 7, 2026, at Stafford Baptist Cemetery, 9501 Two Sisters Ferry Road, Furman.
