William C. "Billy" Padgett, Sr.

Mr. William Cecil “Billy” Padgett, Sr., age 93, of Walterboro, entered into rest Monday evening, March 28, 2022, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

Born May 28, 1928, in Colleton County, he was a son of the late Cecil Marvin Padgett and the late Lillie Ackerman Padgett.   He served in the United States Army having been primarily assigned and part of the Military Police.   He was a member and trustee of the Mount Carmel Southern Methodist Church.  Billy was known as a successful entrepreneur, and maintained many business ventures throughout his lifetime.  He operated Padgett Truck and Trailer and was the founding partner of City Finance located in downtown Walterboro.   He enjoyed life and the people he surrounded himself with, especially his wife and family.   He was an avid fresh water and saltwater fisherman.  He also took great pleasure in loving and raising German Shepherd dogs.

Surviving are: his wife of seventy-one years, Mrs. Helen Bailey Padgett; two sons, William Cecil Padgett, Jr. and his wife Cheryl Carson Padgett of Round Rock, Texas and John Marvin Padgett of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren, Jessica Padgett Johnson and her husband Eric, William Austin Padgett, Michael Logan Padgett (Pauline Nguyen), Sarah Addell Padgett (Cameron Ellison), Summer Emma Padgett, and Lucille “Lucy” Lily Padgett; three great grandchildren, Cosima Johnson, Nova Johnson, and Virginia Padgett; and a sister-in-law, Ann Padgett.   He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Riddick Padgett; and a sister, Cecilia Padgett Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made in his memory to:  Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, April 1, 2022, from the graveside in Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.    The family will greet guests following the committal service at the cemetery.
