Obituary

Mr. William Robert “Bill” Ballard, Jr., age 63, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday morning, May 7, 2026, at his residence.

Born January 28, 1963, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Teddy Harrison and Barbara Hollis Ballard. As a child, he moved around the East Coast before settling in Delaware where he attended the public schools of New Castle County. Bill was a gifted athlete excelling in football, baseball, and track. He joined the Army, serving 4 years. He then became a cable technician. In his free time, he coached young athletes for CTJFL (Capitol Hill Junior Football League) and youth baseball, where he led his team to an unprecedented 16-0 record. Moving his family to South Carolina in 1995, Bill joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – Charleston Local No. 776, where he was a Journeyman Electrician. He attended Refuge Church in Walterboro and will always be remembered as a beloved family man. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter. As a member of Bear Rod and Real, in Delaware, he was a great fisherman as well. Bill was the life of the party! He enjoyed music and always sang along to any song, usually offering his own rendition of the lyrics. He was quick witted and a true smartaleck. Recreational sports were also a large part of his life when his children were younger, having heavy involvement in middle and high school sports. He passed his love of sports on to his children and grandchildren, where he became their biggest fan. He actively supported Colleton County Athletics, where you would always see him at any given game he could attend. Losing his sight in 2020 (how ironic), he really became aware of what was most important in life, and that was FAMILY.

Surviving is his wife of forty-four years, Mrs. Pam Ballard, who he affectionately called PJ; two children, William “Billy” Ballard, III (Brittani) of Walterboro and Stephanie Lea Ballard of Walterboro. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Dean Hill, Destiney Ballard, Kaylee Pak, Kaidyn Ballard-Frazier, Gracelynn Ackerman, Hagan Ballard, Braxley Ballard, Korden Ballard, one great grandchild; Mason Hill, a special friend he considered a brother, Joey Huckert (Tonya), and brother in law; Ricky Pannell (Sally). Siblings: Kim Butler (Jimmy), Robyn Sanders (Chip), Mark Harrison, Susan Harrison, Katherince Gregory, Chrissy Harrison; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Waiting to greet him was his beloved sister, Patricia Harrison Loftis and a great-granddaughter whom he had such anticipation to see, the one who knew him as “Pop”, Miss Asiyra Saige Cole.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, May 14, 2026, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Coach Leroy Riley officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony.
