William Michael Bailey

February 22, 1952 — November 26, 2015

Mr. William Michael Bailey, affectionately known by many as “Mike”, age 63, entered into rest Thursday, November 26, 2015, at his home in Columbia.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, November 29, 2015, from Rice Patch Christian Church, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton.  The family will receive friends following the memorial ceremony at the church.

Born February 22, 1952, he was a son of the late C. B. Bailey and the late Ollie Sue Moorer Dukes and the step-son of the late C.W. Dukes, and the brother of the late Kathryn Bailey Bishop. He was a graduate of Bells High School, class of 1970 and dedicated the majority of his working career to the automobile industry.   He became a well-known icon through his years with Hampton Auto Sales, Ehrhardt Motor Company, various travels around North Carolina and South Carolina with Randy Cox and Company, and Smart Cars in Columbia, before he eventually started Bailey Auto Sales in Columbia.   In his earlier years, he worked at Dukes Farms in Moselle.  A Master Mason, he held his forty year membership at the Hudson Masonic Lodge No. 373 in Islandton and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Islandton.  Mike was a friend to many and will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who centered his life around those he loved.

Surviving are: his wife of forty-three years, Mrs. Doris Ann Moody Bailey; two sons, William Michael Bailey, Jr. of Columbia and Christopher Bradley “Brad” Bailey of Darlington; his most beloved granddaughter Catherine Ann Bailey; a special cousin,  Linda Moorer-Carter; his brother, Hilton Hoover and other Masonic brothers; and special brothers in-law and sister in-law; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
